The annual clip is the culmination of an entire year of work. There are a number of things to consider in order to maximize and retain the value of the fiber harvested from one's alpacas.
Clip preparation begins as soon as shearing is completed. This is true for both the fiber that has just been harvested, and nest year's fiber as well! It was a wise man that once said, "Groom your pastures, not your animals." Taking steps throughout the year to insure that harvested fiber is free of faults such as tenderness, excessive contamination and such will save time and trouble after shearing.
Properly skirting after shearing, as well as sorting by color and staple length reduces costs to the Co-op, increasing profits for return to the shareholder.
Packaging and shipping clip to the Co-op is an evolving process. Carefully following instructions will minimize costs to both the Co-op and the producer, again increasing profits for return to the shareholder.
