Tapetes de Lana
Simply translated, Tapetes de Lana means "wool rugs". Located in
northeastern New Mexico, Tapetes de Lana is a vocational training
program that is making a difference in the lives of many low income
rural families by demonstrating that the cottage weaving industry
offers a fulfilling, empowering and economically-sustaining option,
particularly for individuals who wish to remain in their rural
communities.
The focus on fiber makes the Alpaca Fiber Cooperative and Tapetes a natural fit.
Starting in 2005 Tapetes will take over the clip collection and storage
fucntions previously handled by Sonora. This should prove to be a
true win-win undetaking, and will result in significant cost reductions
for the co-op.
We are exploring the possibilities of expanding our relationship with Tapetes, so stay tuned!
